Our Philosophy

I've lived in the Morehead City area my entire life and have been around boats and the sea since I was a kid. I'm fortunate to be able to make my living from the sea but I realize the sea is not mine - it's ours to share. The ocean is a natural resource to be treasured and kept in good standing for future generations. I believe in catch and release for certain species, especially billfish. Billfish are routinely caught on the Dancin' Outlaw and I encourage our clients to take pictures of their catch but release them unharmed to maintain a healthy stock.

Each day is different and requires a different approach than the previous day. I don't have predetermined routes or spots where I fish. In preparation for your trip I study weather conditions, water temperature and satellite shots of the fishing grounds. I also exchange information with other professionals here at the waterfront. We're competitive but we also help each other in making sure our clients have a great day. I can't guarantee you'll catch fish, but I do guarantee that no one will work harder to find the fish for you.

My family loves to eat seafood and I love seeing our clients catch some of the best eating fish in the sea. I have no problem helping you catch your limit of great eating, non-stressed species such as dolphin, wahoo, tuna, triggerfish, b-liner,  mackerel and bluefish. We'll make sure your catch is properly handled, cleaned and ready for the table. My feelings won't be hurt if you offer me a spare fillet of the days catch.

Safety comes first with no compromises. I've never had any serious injury while at the helm and I plan to keep it that way. The next most important thing is to have fun. I'm serious about fishing and serious about our customers having a great time out on the water.

I have no secrets when it comes to fishing. You charter the Dancin' Outlaw and my mate and I will share what we know and we're happy to show you as well. There is nothing more rewarding than getting people interested in the sport. It's a great family activity.

I'm not adverse to trying new things. If you have a new idea or technique I'll do everything I can to help you with it.

I'm a participant and advocate of North Carolina's Saltwater Citation program. Each year many of our clients catch fish that earn them a nice certificate detailing their catch from the state of North Carolina. These are particularly memorable when framed with a picture of that exceptional catch. I also like to post pictures of our clients and their catch on our Facebook page. It's a great way to share part of your day with your friends.
