Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have more questions please give Capt. Wood a call directly at
(252) 241-8346, e-mail us or use our contact form.
What should I bring with me?
We suggest bringing your camera, polarized sunglasses, video camera, white-soled tennis or boat shoes, sunscreen, hat, and a large cooler to transport your catch home in. If you are prone to seasickness, you'll want to remember the Dramamine! You'll also need to bring any food and beverages you'll want during the day, we have cooler space for ice and your supplies. You can find more general information here.

What should I wear?
The Dancin' Outlaw is air conditioned and heated. However, you will need to dress for the appropriate season. Shorts and t-shirts in the summer and warm in the winter.

What about seasickness?
Eat light. Get a good nights sleep. If you are going to take any form of medication to combat the seasickness, do so BEFORE you get to the dock. These medicines work best if they are in your system at least 30 minutes to an hour before you start activities that might cause seasickness.

Can I bring my GPS?
If you like. The ocean changes everyday.

What time do I need to be on the dock?
5:15 am. We normally leave the dock at 5:30 am and usually return about 4:30 pm for full day trips.

If I'm from out of town, where should I stay?
There are several nearby hotels. We suggest the Quality Inn, Fisherman's Inn, Hampton Inn, or the Holiday Inn Express.

Can I bring more than six people on the trip?
No. We can, however, coordinate with other professional boats to accommodate larger parties.

Do I need a fishing license?
No. The Dancin' Outlaw has a blanket license that covers everyone.

Can I bring my own equipment?
While the Dancin' Outlaw is has a full range of gear and top-of-the-line tackle, if you have something you would like to pull, or a special rod - such as a fly rod, you are more than welcome to bring it.

Is the Dancin' Outlaw available for tournaments?
Yes. The Dancin' Outlaw is available for all tournaments including the NC Governors Cup Tournament.

Do I need to know how to fish?
Absolutely not. The crew of the Dancin' Outlaw will help you with all aspects of fishing.

I have seen other boats advertised at lower rates. Why should I fish on the Dancin' Outlaw?
While trying to keep our prices as low as possible in this trying economy, we feel like its worth to charge what it takes to be able to sometimes travel that extra 20 miles and provide top-of-the-line equipment to make the days catch a worthwhile investment. We are a professional boat and crew. This is what we do for a living, not as a weekend hobby like you will find with smaller boats.

What other activities or events does the Crystal Coast offer?
While we have some of the best fishing on the East coast, we are also known as a world class diving destination. History abounds in the Crystal Coast with Fort Macon State Park and Beaufort just over the bridges. We also have wild horses on Shackleford, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and plenty of shopping for the ladies.
